Join us at Wayside on Saturday, July 19th to celebrate our fifth anniversary! (Scroll to bottom of schedule for event details)

Schedule:

11:30  Registration opens and a light, simple lunch will be available until 12:30

12:30 Music and Dance Journey Through Latin America –Tanya Gonzalez, one of Wayside’s newest board members, is a Mexican Folklorico and Spanish tanyaFlamenco dancer. Tanya will share with us some musical selections that illustrate the roots and connections of Latin-American music, will perform traditional dance and will offer some basic instruction so that all can join in!

 

 

2:00 Envisioning a Mural that will tell Wayside’s Story – Eva Rocha, co-founder of the Virginia Center for Latin American Art will lead a process that evaincorporates your input into the story told in a 30 foot tall mural to be painted at Wayside sometime during the coming year.

3:30 Wayside Anniversary Program – Celebrating five years of down-home, southern movement-building through story-telling and music!

5:00 – 7:00 Dinner – During the dinner break there will be a designated area for an acoustic song circle. All are welcome to come, with or without instruments to play, sing along or listen.

7:00 Hip Hop Showcase featuring Spititout, Inc., a Charlottesville-based crew making space for the underground, grassroots hip hop culture. Found in the streets as often as in the studio, you can check out their music here.spititout

9:00 Dance Party – Afro Beta Wayside Edition – We’ll celebrate 5 years of popular education in style with Mikemetic and the Afro Beta crmikeew. Combining arfully chosen and mixed world beats with the rhythms of live drummers, Afro Beta is an experience you do’t want to miss.

Mikemetic is an eclectic cultural worker, DJ, an organizer, the host of radio show “Middle East Coast Mecca” on WRIR in Richmond. Mikemetic connects children to art and is a part of Richmond’s brilliant mural scene.  Learn more about Mikemetic’s Natives project, and Richmond’s Style Weekly Top 40 Under 40 on Richmond’s electronic music renaissance man. 

Meals and Lodging

All meals will accommodate vegetarians and vegans, some will include a meat option and at least Saturday dinner will accommodate a gluten-free diet. If you have additional dietary concerns you may wish to bring some of your own food.

All are welcome to stay the night and join us for Sunday breakfast. There is limited sleeping space in the house and plenty of room for camping.
