“This was the best staff retreat I have ever had. It was like staying in a Bed and Breakfast. The food was great and the atmosphere felt like home, only better.” Julie Blust, Virginia Organizing
The top floor contains two bedrooms, one with a full and two twin beds, the other with a queen and two twin beds. These rooms are ideal for families and have sufficient space for a couple of sleeping pads each on the floor.
The middle floor has a dormitory room with 4 bunkbeds custom-built to our specifications for maximum comfort and headroom.
The ground floor has a dormitory room containing one full and seven twin beds.
We have two folding cots that can be used in any of the rooms.
In addition, there is a 5 acre meadow with plenty of well-drained ground providing a thick thatch as a bed for dozens of tents.
The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped to cook for a large group, including two wall-mounted convection ovens and a five-burner gas stove mounted in an island. We have a 50-cup coffee maker and well as all of the large stock-pots, serving bowls, plates, silverware, etc. that you would need to cook for and serve a group of 24.
The dining room can easily accommodate 24. Additional tables can be set up in the kitchen and outside on the covered porch.
The main meeting room in the house seats 24. The library can be used as a break-out room for 8. In nice weather, the 400+ s.f. deck provides an additional large meeting space and covered porches in the front and back provides numerous nooks for conversations and small group meetings. The broad, flat meadow provides ample space for a large tent. We can coordinate tent rental or put you in touch with local rental agencies.
The top floor of the house has a full bath with tub and hand-held shower. The middle floor contains a full bath with shower. The ground level floor has a half bath. An outdoor, summer bathhouse is in our plans but it is uncertain if it will be completed at the time of your rental. If not, the bathing facilities can be supplemented with portable toilet rentals and a temporary, cold-water outdoor shower.
The house is equipped with wireless internet and a land-line with complementary domestic long-distance.
Our 25 acres of land includes substantial creek frontage and wooded hillsides for roaming. We have the beginnings of a network of walking trails and the woods themselves offer easy access with many acres free of underbrush and other obstructions. We have access to a lovely swimming hole, mostly waist-deep with a deeper area as well that sits beneath a small waterfall with a natural whirlpool. The meadow provides ample space for field games. There is a stone fire circle and easy access to wood for bonfires. We are located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and there are many day-hikes and other recreational opportunities within a short drive.
Our facility is wheelchair accessible with a concrete parking pad, sidewalk, wheelchair ramp and wheelchair accessible bathroom with appropriate fixtures and a shower chair. We also offer assistance with language access including a state-of-the art personal PA system for simultaneous interpretation and interpretation services. These services involve additional fees and take some time to arrange, so please let us know as soon as possible if this is something you might be interested in.
