In just a few weeks organizers, activists, artists and justice-loving folks from across the region will converge on Wayside for a weekend of relationship building, networking, expanding our collective vision and getting re-charged for another year of struggle together. The event is lightly scheduled and everything is optional, so there is plenty of time for walks in the woods, swimming in the creek, relaxing in the hammocks, making music and getting to know kindred spirits. Bring a tent and stay over Saturday night – we’ll even cook you breakfast!

Important Note: Please don’t bring dogs!

Saturday July 13th

All Day Long – Banner Making – We’ll provide the supplies, you bring the ideas. Craft a banner that represents the identity, group, issue, geographic area or cheap a line wedding dresses sale constituency that represents you. Contribute to as many banners expressing as many facets of yourself as you’d like to. Meet up with other people who share your interest and collaborate on a banner that uses words, pictures and/or symbols to express something about you and how you relate to our regional struggles for justice. Then display your banner for all to see!

9 – 10:30 Queer Caucus – facilitated by Southerners on New Groundcommons 2

11:00 – 12:30 Regional Immigration Discussion

1:00 – 2:00 Lunch

2:30 – 4 Regional Discussion on the School to Prison Pipeline and Mass Incarceration

4:30 – 6 Main Program and Presentation of 2013 People’s History Awards

6 – 8 Dinner

8:00 Talent Show Followed by Bonfire and Revelry Into the Night!

Sunday July 14th

9:00 – 11:00 Breakfast

11:00 – 12 Final Cleanup and Departure

The Wayside Commons is a free event and we want it to be accessible to everyone regardless of financial means. Please help make it sustainable for us to continue this important gathering year after year. The expenses are substantial, tent and equipment rental, printing, providing 3 meals for all . . . the estimated cost to Wayside is $20 per person. Call for Volunteers

Do you love getting to know new people? Want to help make the Wayside Commons as an enjoyable experience as possible for everyone involved? Maybe you are shy or just want an easy way to build relationships with other Commons attendees?

Well gee, sounds like you should volunteer!

We are looking for folks to help out in the kitchen (prep, serving, clean-up), child-care, for the accessibility team and other logistical areas.
