Wayside Center seeks applicants based in Richmond and Charlottesville for the 2014 Summer Internship Program. Interns will learn and practice community organizing and popular education skills through assistance with day-to-day operations of Wayside Center, planning and implementing Wayside’s 5th anniversary celebration, developing and implementing a popular education workshop in their own community and more.
The program, which begins on June 20th and ends on September 22nd will involve an average of 6 – 8 hours of work per week, with three mandatory weekend intensives: June 20th – 22nd, July 18th – 20th and September 19th – 21st. Weekend intensives require presence at Wayside from Approximately 6 pm on Friday until 1 pm on Sunday.
Interns will be compensated $1,200 for their participation in the program, paid in six equal installments. All travel expenses will be reimbursed and meals and lodging will be provided during weekend intensives.
At least two of the positions require fluency in English and Spanish, and people from communities directly affected by immigration issues and mass incarceration are especially encouraged to apply.
