For the past four years, diverse groups from around the state have gathered at the start of the General Assembly session to network, learn and build a People's Agenda. Last year's VPA drew a crowd of 175 people and 2013 Virginia People's Assembly planned for January 5th is shaping up the be the best one yet. Wayside is proud to be among the growing list of over 40 endorsers and we encourage everyone to mobilize for this event. Lunch, dinner and childcare will be provided and Wayside is organizing Spanish/English interpretation. For details and updates be sure and visit the VPA blog regularly and please share the link.
A vitally important resource in building the VPA has been the Virginia Defender newspaper. This volunteer-run, statewide paper helps to keep our struggles across the region connected to each other and reports on stories that other papers won't touch. If you're in Richmond, please consider attending their Wine and Cheese fundraiser and/or Speakeasy benefit with fine spirits and a special acoustic performance by Swordplay, both happening tomorrow night.
And last but not least, remember the Socks for Inmates is closing in on their goal of supplying a pair of socks to every single inmate in the Richmond City Jail, which does not provide them. The socks will be delivered to the jail during a press conference on 12/18 highlighting abuses in the jail. Visit Socks for Inmates to learn where you can contribute.
